Resolve Each Day’s Troubles through Daily Morning Prayer.

This week, I read the following that someone wrote:
“In 480 B.C. the outmanned army of Sparta’s King Leonidas held off the Persian troops of Xerxes by fighting them one at a time as they came through a narrow mountain pass. Commenting on this strategy, C. H. Spurgeon said, “Suppose Leonidas and his handful of men had gone out into the wide-open plain and attacked the Persians—why, they would have died at once, even though they might have fought like lions.” Spurgeon continued by saying that Christians stand in the narrow pass of today. If they choose to battle every difficulty at once, they’re sure to suffer defeat. But if they trust God and take their troubles one by one, they will find that their strength is sufficient. This excerpt teaches us a wise way we can overcome all things in peace in this world where we face various difficulties one after another.”

I believe this excerpt imparts wisdom on the way we can live in peace and overcome everything in this world, in which difficulties occur repeatedly. I think there is never a day without problems in life. When it seems like our financial problems are finally over, we are faced with health issues. And when our health seems to be resolved, we find ourselves in a relational problem with others. This is why it feels like we spend most of our days sad and worried rather than smiling or being happy. And the more we try to resolve the tsunami of difficulties that come our way, the more exhausted we become. And as we near the end of our lives, we might feel as though life is meaningless because we had spent our entire life dealing with problems. For this reason, Moses writes in Psalm 90:10, “The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.” As we think about this verse, I am sure we can resonate with this statement. When we reflect on our past, it can seem like all we did was live with worries in the midst of problems. However, the book of Lamentations shows us how to live a fulfilling life with hope even in the midst of troubles.

This is the passage from Lamentations 3:19-26. “Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.” The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” This passage portrays what prophet Jeremiah experienced when he became troubled after realizing his nation would eventually be destroyed by Babylon. He became hopeless as he faced the demise of his nation. But through prayer, his worries turned into hope. When Jeremiah prayed each morning, God revealed His will to him. God’s will was not to destroy Israel, but to restore the nation by surrendering them to Babylonian captivity. Once Jeremiah realized this truth, he was able to have hope even in the midst of his nation’s destruction.

Through this passage in Lamentations, I realize how I should live each day in this problem-filled world. We have to pray each morning in order to receive hope we need for that day. Then God will give us a way to live that day with hope so that the day does not go by in vain. And I believe that if we pray like this every morning, our lives will be filled with hope. Therefore, in this new year, let us pray each morning to receive new strength.
